Event photography has been a profitable career for those who have a creative bent of mind. An event photographer gets an impressive fee for making use of his photographic skills to capture images in various events of both formal and informal nature. The importance of event photography is that it allows people to protect their memories of important occasions and reminisce about them later through the photos.

Event photography is a great choice for all those professional photographers who are properly trained. However, to become an expert there are some tips that must be kept in mind.

The first aspect to be considered is the event you are photographing and the ultimate use of the photographs. For example, if you are photographing a corporate event, where the photos are intended to be published in an in-house magazine, then you should focus on the exact proceedings of the event and develop a sequence of pictures that display how the event unfolded. However, if you have to photograph an informal gathering, then you should focus on the persons present and their expressions throughout the event in your photographs.

Alertness is an important factor in event photography. You should be absolutely aware of the proceedings around you and should know when to take a photograph and when to wait. Even the customers favour those photographers who can appreciate the things going on around them and need not be guided on the appropriate moment to take a picture. This is something which you can cultivate only with time but you must keep making attempts to acquire this skill.

Familiarity with the venue where the event is being organized is useful during event photography. You must make yourself familiar with the spots where most of the action will be happening and find proper spots to position yourself for a clear line of sight.

In terms of technical aspects, always ensure that you are familiar with your camera and all its aspects, so that you can quickly click pictures from hard angles and not miss important moments. Lighting is a crucial part of photography and an experienced event photographer should collect information about the amount of light that will be available at the site. On the basis of this knowledge, you must be ready with proper equipment and with the camera in the correct settings.

Finally, an event photographer also needs to have a friendly personality. You must be able to make friends with the group you are photographing. If you are able to mix with the people and feel the mood of the event then the group would be more at ease and the photos will be much better.
