Photography is a great way to show art and it can be a great hobby as well. If you'd like to be among those taking wonderful pictures, then the following advice can help you get on the right track.

Remember that a camera is only a tool. Use a shallower depth of field to blur the background and focus attention on the subject of the photograph.

If you are taking pictures of subjects near fluorescent lighting, you'll need to manually set the white balance to correct for the tinting effect this causes. Subjects will not look their best under the harsh light from fluorescent bulbs, so adjust the color settings on your camera.

If you're trying to photograph children work with them, not against them. It is often difficult to get children to sit down and pose for a portrait. You may be surprised at how many good pictures you will capture by letting them play while you take their picture.

There is no one secret or silver bullet towards becoming a great photographer. Practice your shooting to gain experience, and hone your skills. With digital technology, you can fire away and not feel pressured to retain images that you do not like. Your skills will improve over time and you will benefit from scrutinizing your images and what you could have done to improve them.

Framing is very important when you are considering your photo's composition. Make sure to zoom in on the focus of the picture, and keep distracting elements out of the picture. This will make sure that people do not get distracted from the main focal point, as well as keep your photographs well styled without the background clutter.

If you are ever somewhere without a camera and see a possible composition, note down the location and time. Then, you can return when the right equipment and get the shot. A little notepad or journal is a great item to have on hand so you can remind yourself of places you want to return to.

Take the time to read and understand the manual that comes with your camera. Manuals frequently are large and awkward. They usually get shoved in the back of a drawer or just thrown away. Instead, take the time necessary to go through it and understand your camera. You will find a lot of information that can improve your picture taking and stop silly mistakes from happening.

Photography is the only way to capture treasured moments forever. Though photographs are merely printed on paper, they can be the things we prize more than any other possession. You can create beautiful, artistic and interesting photographs by experimenting with the features on your camera.
