Ajay Devgan, one of the well known actors of Hindi film industry, has been bestowed the National Award for Best Actor twice. Ajay (original name Vishal Devgan) began acting with the movie Phool Aur Kaante in an action role, which was very unlikely of a newcomer that time. His fame as an action hero increased with some films and they became mega hits. Soon he started committing other roles as well. It was then he accepted the opportunity to star in Ishq, in a comedy role, opposite to Kajol. These two can be seen in Pyar To Hona Hi Tha, which was a huge box office success in the year 1998.
First National Award.
In 1998, through Zakhm, he received the Best Actor Award in National Film Awards. He was seen in a serious role in this Mahesh Bhatt directed movie. He acted with Nagarjuna, Pooja Bhatt and Sonali Bendre in the film narrating a story of 1992 riots as backdrop. After this recognition, Ajay Devgan got opportunity to act in films of popular directors such as Mani Ratnam (Yuva), Sanjay Leela Bhansali (Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam) and Ram Gopal Varma (Company and Bhoot).
Second National Award.
He signed up the character in Rajkumar Santhoshi's biographical film The Legend Of Bhagat Singh and enacted the role of Bhagat Singh in 2002. With this popular movie, he received his 2nd National Award for Best Actor in addition to the Filmfare Critics Award.
In a span of two decades, Ajay has acted in more than hundred Films. His negative characters in Khakee and Kaal were liked very much and he got nomination for Best Villain in Filmfare Awards. His performance was also praised in a lot of movies ��" Raincoat, Golmaal and Yuva being some of them. In Raincoat ��" an off-beat movie, he acted with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. As he wanted to concentrate more on Raju Chacha, his first film as a producer , he signed only Deewane in the year 2000. Although the movie could not attract the audience to theatres, Kajol and Ajay were seen on screen through this film. His search for new horizons in Bollywood made him direct the movie U, Me Aur Hum in 2008. He was the lead actor and producer of the film. Following this movie, he produced All The Best: The Fun Begins. Ajay Devgan can be seen in action in the upcoming films Singham, Power and Tezz.
