Before Mary Alice Hill became the established women motivational speaker she is known to be, she was a track and field athlete aiming for the Olympics. She continued on to help other young and talented women athletes as a track and field coach to win the Olympics. Because of this feat, she was offered a job by the Colorado State University which was the beginning of her Athletic Director career to the Women's Athletic department. She also became an athletic director in San Diego University which was a first at that time because of her gender.

To become an athletic trainer, it required extensive experience in the particular sport involved but to succeed as Hill did required her strength and determination. She had character unlike others to drive the athletes she trains because of her passion in changing women's right in sports. This passion in her chosen path even went so far as a lawsuit file.

An Athletic Director is an administrator in charge of coaches and athletic staff and oversees and coordinates all their work. Mary Alice Hill was the first woman Athletic Director in the entire country and lead the way for future female Athletic Director across the nation. The Athletic Director of a university is often the most visual and important member of an athletic department and Mary Alice Hill opened the door for women to be in that position.

Women have always had less freedom when it came to sports though society does not openly acknowledge or discuss the issue. There are as much right for women to enjoy baseball, soccer and any other sports as men would. Sports is not just a form of entertainment but a way to get in touch with one's culture or represent one's country. It has become such an essential part of people's lives even to women. This is why it is important to have women stand up just as Hill did to let others become aware of the impact of gender inequality. Fortunately for women all over the world, this gap between men and women is continually dwindling thanks to actions by people such as that of Hill.

Mary Alice Hill was also struck a major victory for women sports in a landmark Title IX sexual discrimination case as well. Hill sued Colorado State University for unfairly not renewing her contract because of her outspoken advocacy for women athletics and women sports in general.

Hill has also become a motivational speaker which was another significant role undertook for empowering women. Listening to a motivational speaker allows people to develop a wider mind set and reviews an energy, enthusiasm and passion in their hearts to understand and support the same cause which will continue on the work for gender equality not only sports but also in the culture of society.
