This has been a wacky week in the news world, thanks to the crazy story of the Heenes. It all started with a police report that stated that their youngest son Falcon had been flown away in a flying saucer that the family had built.
This saucer was filled with helium, and flying hundreds of feet (if not thousands) above the ground, being followed by the FAA and news helicopters alike. The nation watched the plight of this saucer on the edge of its seat, fearing the worst possible outcome for young Falcon.
Amazingly, the saucer had a soft landing onto the ground but people were still naturally worried and fearing the worst. Things took an even more interesting turn when Falcon wasn't actually inside the saucer. Very shortly thereafter, the family alerted authorities that he had been in the attic all along.
Later that night, the Heenes decided to go onto CNN with Wolf Blitzer to tell the nation of their story. Everything seemed rather ordinary until Falcon blurted out, on camera, that he had been instructed by his parents to hide in the attic for the TV show.
Everything then took a turn for the worse and it became obvious that the entire incident was a staged one. The public had been taken for a ride by the Heene family.
Their 15 minutes of fame came at a big cost though, and someone has to pay the price for it.
The costs associated with the chase were high, as was the media coverage. Simply put, you don't toy with anyone's emotions like this, especially when it involves the life of your own son.
As such, there's no legitimate reason to believe that this should be treated any differently. These parents should both do some time in jail. Their spectacle was pathetic.
