If you don't read the instructions, you have nothing to complain about as other reviewers have. This camera takes awesome photos.
I took it to a rafting trip in WV and to the beach, it works perfect! You do have plug into the computer before insert the memory card, but other than that is a great addition to your electronics! After punishing this poor little camera all summer, I've got to say I am deeply impressed with it. The panorama option is also a phenomenal addition - I have some amazing sunset shots that look seamless thanks to the built in sensor (automatically lines up and takes the next 2 shots for you- all you have to do is move the camera and it does the rest). This is my 4th digital camera in the past 10 years. I am no fool.
I highly recommend buying the extended warranty if you get this camera. This camera has many positive attributes that should make it attractive to the casual photographer or videographer (or even to serious hobbyists who might themselves unable to schlep full size gear). The factory does make errors. This is actually my 2nd one I had some water leaking issues with the 1st one and Olympus was very easy to work with in resolving my issue.
Those who rated 5 stars pointed to the 1 star reviewers and said they were not paying attention to the actual features, or 'learning' how to use it properly. Within 10 minutes of just 'playing around' I found how to change turn off the immediate preview, and change the shutter speed from normal to 'sequential' to 'high sequential'.
The HD video is excellent. It's as good as or better than my Panasonic HD camcorder puts out. After the third snorkeling session (camera no deeper than arm's length below the surface) and probably no more than 90 minutes in the water, the Olympus Stylus Tough 6020 camera died. Screen just flashes on and off. I took it to my daughter's Christmas concert. My husband took pictures and the camera would not shut off. Also, no external battery charger, so you have connect it with its door open to charge it - not ideal for keeping dust and dirt out of the waterproof compartment. Its overall design and build are not impressive. It is amazing, I have taken underwater pictures and dropped it before and it holds up fine. I have even spilled juice on it before and just had to rinse it off. I love it so much! I like the panoramic feature of the camera and the multi shot capabilities. After some basic research for a camera to be used solely for vacations to tropical locations, I settled on the Olympus Tough 6020 camera. I was sold on the features of the camera, particularly the ability shoot pictures and video under water. I was very happy with my old camera, so decided to replace it with the current mode. The Olympus 6020 seemed to fit the bill and came with a few new features.
