The age of the computer has become so ingrained in our lives that we need it everyday. With all of this work on the computer, people will need to save the information on some type of data storage unit. The two formats, SDHC vs SDXC, have become a well known format for people these days. The advantages are numerous with the SD family type of data storage.

Speaking of memory cards for cameras, the SD family of storage devices have many different formats that determine what is the best. The computer system can also determine what would be the most logical way of being able to store data. The range goes from more information storage to a different way of saving the information. This can be a very important detail for those who want to store information with a particular format.

SDHC is the designation for secure digital high capacity. This is an expanded format for the family of storage devices classified as the SD family. The maximum peak for this type of storage medium is 34 gigabytes of information. The data storage is saved with the same method like the previous formats that have been developed. The SDHC format uses sector addressing unlike the older byte addressing standard. The byte method was used for older computer systems.

Byte addressing has a full capacity of four gigs when saving information. The method known to the SD family as sector addressing is up to two TB for data saving. It is said that the SDHC can store up to 32 gb of information. It is a good storage media but can't be used in older computer systems that use the SD 1.0 setup.

The SDXC saw the day of light in the year 2009. The method of storage known as secure digital extended capacity was brought into the world at the Consumer Electronics Show or CES. SDHC has been created to go over 32 GB of storage, but has been purposely set at 32 GB. The limitations are set by the 2.0 format. SDXC cards are labeled with a 3.0 classification with SD 4.0 for later more updated SD cards in 2011.

SDXC based on the SD 3.0 format can produce speeds up to 832 Mbit per second. This is labeled as UHS104 speeds. 2.4 gigabyte transfer has been issued to be the limits for the 4.0 setup. The SDXC is setup for the exFAT file system. It is also compatible for other file system formats beyond the standard. The multiple methods that can be used with the system is one of the benefits.

The year 1999 saw the creation of the SD format through SanDisk, Matsushita, and Toshiba. They developed the market in opposition to the Sony Memory Stick which was put out by MagicGate DRM. The SD method was brought to the world by MultiMediaCard. The two would change the face of the way that data was stored.

When we look at the situation between SDHC vs SDXC, we can see a dynamic change between the two formats that changed the way we store information from computers. The two have different formats for data storage and the level of storing data. The choice of which is better is determined by the system that is being used and the user.
