Hindi film directors, actors, actresses and people behind the scenes have proved their great ability undoubtedly in the world of films. One among the few charming and talented actresses of early India cinema is Sadhana Shivdasani, a beauty, who is mostly referred to her fringe. Many remarkable performances from her, has left an indelible mark in Hindi film industry despite the fame of other actresses of the same period. It is said that she always admired the talented actress Nutan and this influence might be seen in her performances also. Sadhana Shivdasani started acting in plays while she was in college. Her first silver screen appearance was through the 1st Sindhi film Abana in 1960. Filmmaker Subodh Mukherjee asked to perform the main role for his next movie Love In Simla, along with his son, Joy Mukherjee. The movie was directed by a debutant director, R K Nayyar, who later on became Sadhana's husband. The fringe, which made her popular in the following years, was suggested by R K Nayyar.
Hum Dono, Ek Musafir Ek Hasina and Parakh gave her good roles and she became the sought after actress of the '60s. Woh Kaun Thi?, Saaya and Anita were some of her well-known suspense films which added another golden feather to her cap. Aarzoo, Mere Mehboob, Ek Phool Do Maali and Inteqaam were some of her movies, which had her best performances. For the Filmfare Best Actress Award, she was nominated twice - in 1964 (Woh Kaun Thi?) and in 1965 (Waqt).
In the year 1974, she directed and acted in the film Geeta Mera Naam. When she got married to R K Nayyar, she made up her mind to stop acting. Sadly they could not have a child. Her connection with films was not easily cut off. After some years, when both of them established a production house, she was seen to be actively taking part in making films. Her disinterest in performing supportive characters made her refuse all offers.
In her acting career, she was fortunate to have acted with a lot of of the actors in Hindi movie industry. Dev Anand, Raj Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor, Sunil Dutt and Rajendra Kumar were some of the leading actors at that time, with whom she worked. A few of her romantic movies and suspense thrillers are considered to be classics in the movie industry. She is definitely an actress who acts with finesse and grace and has created a niche in the industry.
