Turbans are a type of headgear worn by men and women of various communities, for example the Muslims. In a nutshell, they are basically made up of long strips of cloth. Apart from the Muslims, the Hindus as well wear the them, but only during special ceremonies and occasions. Moreover, a certain group of Christians in various parts of the world have also adapted turban wrapping into their daily mode of dressing.

As like any type of clothing, turbans comes in different shapes, sizes and colors. The people affiliated with this type of head-wear believe that it represents complete commitment to their own higher consciousness. It also shows that they are different from others since it gives them a distinct appearance.

If you are probably planning to add a turban to your wardrobe, it is better you have patience. It takes some time to put together the long pieces of cloth to a shape that is appealing to the eye. You can be creative and try out some methods said below.

Among the various methods is the double wide style. Used by the Indian men of Punjab, the piece of clothing (preferably six meters long) is cut into two equal pieces and sewn together. The result is a larger turban that is made up of few wraps.

The Warrior Style is also commonly used. As you might have figured it out, it is a style tied by the warriors when going out for battle, mostly Sikhs. There is no consideration on the color, length and what not to tie with this style. Just take the cloth you have, tie a knot to hold the clothing and place it on the head then you are ready to go wherever you are going. However, let this not make you think that it is easy, it takes some time to get it right.

There is also the common and general way of wrapping. It is mostly clad by Sikhs. This one is not complicated at all. You need two items; a long piece of cloth on which starching has been done before hand and an item called the patka placed under the head-dress so as to hold it firmly and protect it from falling.

The House style is also not left out among the various styles that one can use. Among women, the piece of clothing usually has a length of around three meters and is worn early in the morning after waking up or while exercising. At the same time, for men, the cloth is usually shorter ranging between 1.5-2 meters. This may however vary depending on personal preferences; whether there are to be one or several wraps around the head. Children are also not left out from this style of tying up, considering they also do it when playing or even when indoors. It is therefore one that is all round.

In conclusion, the turban can be worn on the head in many different ways depending on personal preferences, gender, purpose and the environment. Turban wrapping can also be done in various ways as seen. You should however choose one that best suits your needs as well as the color that goes along with that.
