If you are a hip hop artist then you would likely know that coming up with the right beats and instrumentals for a song can sometimes be tricky. If you do not get the beat right, the whole song can be messed up. However, if you have been in the industry for long, you will have noticed that most of the time it is quite easy to pick out the right beat to your song because you have developed your own unique taste. However, what happens when you are at a complete loss when it comes to choosing your own beats?

The first way of choosing your rap beats is considering the concept of your song. Take a step back and ask yourself, what is your song going to be about? Is there going to be a theme? Try to be specific as much as possible and identify the emotions that your song is going to convey to your listeners. Once this is done, browse through your music library and find some instrumentals that match the theme and the emotions.

The second method is for those rappers who don't know how to sing about anything specific in their songs and sort of just let the lyrics flow. In this case, the above method won't do you much good, but what can help is if you go through your whole collection of instrumentals. Listen to them keenly, and once you come across one you like, you will be able to tell right away.

This may sound a little cheesy, but sometimes you will hear a song and a sudden burst of inspiration floods in to your system and you know that particular track is what you have been looking for. Once the instrumental is in place, everything from the concept to the other elements of the song will fall into place.

Looking for beats is not that difficult - different types of beats can be found anywhere, especially online. What is challenging, however, is distinguishing different beats. There are of course, different factors that you need to consider if you need to figure out the instrumentals for an upcoming song. But the best way to tell them apart is to listen to the types of instrument used to create the instrumental. Remember that different instruments produce different personality to a song, and the best way to hone your skills is to listen to different types of music and instrumentals available to you. With these, you're on your way to creating the perfect song!
