When you ask music lovers to define the term grove, majority will find it hard coming up with the right words to describe it. The main reason for this is that groove usually relates to the feeling listening to music evokes. While finding the exact words to define groove in hip hop, groove is created by a couple of things. Every beat producer wants to incorporate a unique form of groove within their sounds. For the beginner, finding the right groove might take time. Professionals on the other hand have found ways of incorporating groove within their sounds.

Groove can best be described as the binding force within a beat that brings about rhythm and harmony. It's the cohesive force that brings together the different parts of the beat. Like with other elements within the beat, groove is easily recognizable. The mind and body usually responds to the groove found within a hip hop beat. This is also the case with other music genres. Each music genre has its way of creating groove. However, regardless of genre, without groove, music is not pleasant to listen to.

The hip hop beat comprises different elements provided by a specific type of instrument. Drums act as rhythm creator, pads as melody creators and, the lead filling out the other elements. The groove then comes in as the binding force bringing these elements together into one harmonic beat.

An ocean wave is perhaps the best way of describing groove. A wave will set into motion anything on its path. More movement will be experienced as the wave becomes larger and stronger. The contrary is true for slow moving and small waves. Groove in music will also set the body in motion in similar ways. A fast groove will get people dancing fast. Mellow grooves on the other hand will get people dancing in a more relaxed manner.

A groove can be used in various parts of your beats. You can set it out in the beginning to help lead into the intro or you can use it to worked into the chorus and it can extend the verse. A groove can be used in different tempos to help fill your music out completely.

A majority of novice music producers don't actually understand the importance of incorporating groove within their track. Most will only realize its importance when they find listeners are not interested in their music. As a beginner, it's important that you take time to learn about groove and how to add it into your tracks. This way, you will be able to ensure that listeners are responding to your music through dance.
