All through the recorded history of fashion, women have had always had some form of head wear trending. The addition of this accessory to an outfit can take it from making a good impression to being truly remarkable. Whether she prefers a yellow sunhat, a blue pillbox or a purple turban, a woman's choice of covering should serve its purpose while suiting her personality.

The turban be both practical and stylish and has many variations. This term is used to describe any number of head coverings that are wrapped snugly, or appear to be, around the head. Most people generally associate this style as the type worn by religious and cultural groups that have their roots in Asia, Africa, India and the Middle East.

The official definition is a head covering formed by taking a long length of fabric and winding it around the skull in a snug fashion that encompasses all on one's hair. By modern fashion standards, this term now means anything that has a general resemblance. Though some designs require one to wrap the scarf themselves, others can be purchased fabricated as a hat.

Most caps of this type are made to look like a wrapped headpiece but can vary in the type of fabric used and the embellishments that are added. Some designs are intended to serve functional purposes and others are meant to be worn in public and displayed as beautiful accessories. One popular version used for practical reasons is the terry cloth style that fits like a wrapped towel and dries hair quickly and without rubbing.

The first step to creating a personalized look is finding a scarf that is fairly long and in a color, print and fabric that pleases the wearer. When folded into a long strip of about three inches in width, or be rolled to form a rope, the beginning of many styles is formed. For instance, a headband may be formed by placing the center in back of the head, bringing to the front and twisting the ends around each other and reversing to tie them in behind the neck.

Pleating the scarf will be the starting point to creating a design that gives the illusion of a complicated wrap. Starting behind the head, bring the ends to the front and tie them one time before returning to the nape and forming a formal knot and tucking the ends in the band. Complete the look by gently and loosely spreading the folds until the entire crown is covered, and use pins or clips to hold in place.

Another widely used design for scarves is to fold the fabric into a triangle and utilize it as a bandanna. Though very simple in its concept, it can be easily adapted depending on whether the ends are tied in a knot or a bow, and whether it is placed in the front, back or on the side of the head. Adding personal touches such as brooches, flowered bobby pins or rhinestones can also give the piece a whole new appeal.

Tying one's own purple turban can be a satisfying way to get a personalized look. Most hats of this style are also able to be fully customizable. One may choose from the many variations available to form fashionable headbands, amazing bandannas, full skull caps or other amazing designs and add their favorite type of embellishment to create something unique.
