Event photography as a career is very lucrative. People who cover events like marriages, seminars, sports events, award ceremonies etc. are known as event photographers.

People normally believe that all you need to do to become an event photographer is to bring a camera and keep taking photographs through the event. But, the truth is actually the opposite. To become an expert event photographer one must create certain skills required by the discipline, which can be acquired and enhanced by taking up specialised courses on the subject.

The first quality that an event photographer should have is creativity and it should be coupled with the capability to understand the mood of an event. For example, the approach needed to do a wedding project is not the same as that of a sports event. Therefore, the photographer should have a flair for capturing the mood of an event in his pictures.

Event photography also calls for proper handling of various issues that may arise during the event. A clumsy and careless approach doesn't quite suit event photography. It demands that the photographer be prepared with his camera and other necessary equipment well before the beginning of the event. A clumsy approach where things get done only at the last moment will be detrimental to an event photography career.

It is obvious that an event photographer should know his art inside out. He must know his equipment inside out and must have a fair idea about how to control the settings to get a top class result. He requires to know about the proper use of light and angles and he should be able to make use of the available resources to the maximum.

Summing up, an event photographer needs serious dedication towards the discipline along with the eagerness to absorb different aspects of this art. You also need to improve your awareness levels and adaptability to be able to do well in this field.
