Imagine of a place there were no any socks manufacturer, retailers or wholesalers to sell goods to the member of the society. It is actually unimaginable situation as people will lack the commodities they use in their daily lives. In such a situation it will force the buyer to get the goods from the producer premises. This may be basically impossible as not everyone is within the reach of the producer so some may not reach them because of their location.

There are now intermediaries in the market better called distributors. They are responsible for taking goods from the producers and later dispatch them to other businesses to be resold or directly to the customers. Without them it will be harder to reach the goods produced from the producer location which may be a far location.

Not all goods can be distributed to the middlemen. Exclusions are vegetable products, flowers and fruits. Remember these goods can barely last for two days without getting spoil. To avoid spoilage that will give you very big losses, it is advisable to sell the goods directly to the final customer using the fastest means. This is the reason why airplanes are used to ferry flowers especially to far countries. And to do this they are equipped with necessary refrigerating equipment.

Producers give out their goods in large quantities to the middlemen so that they can resell them on their behalf. Producers do not take part in the market selling because they are in a distant location from the market where they cannot manage to issue the goods to the customers or they may be involved in vigorous production activities that do not give them even the slightest chance to sell their merchandise in their own.

It all depends on the type of products that the producer produces. If they produce non-perishable goods they can comfortably use the middlemen to reach the wider market but if they produce perishable goods, they better supply it to the buyers in the market on their own because the products may spoil while undergoing exchanges between different businesses that distribute goods. Products like fish, vegetables and flowers do not last for a long time without getting spoil.

Wholesalers get their goods from the producers in large scale. Such a purchase involves large trade discounts. They then break the bulk of these goods so that they are sell able to retailers who deliver the goods to the final customer. Wholesalers are known for their large warehouses that they keep the goods until they are needed hence creating place utility.

Retailers get the goods from the wholesalers at reduced quantities although they can reduce them further so that they will meet the tastes and preferences of the customers. The advantage the retailers have over the entire intermediaries associated with distribution of goods is that they are conveniently located near the customers.

Distributors and socks manufacturer are therefore very important in every society. Without them buyers may be forced to spend more money and time to get those goods. They need to be appreciated for the services they do towards making a good economy to everybody.
