Becoming somewhat of a classic show, Friends screened on television from the 22nd of September 1994, through to the 6th of May 2004. By the time the show ended it's ten year cycle, more than fifty-two million viewers were tuning in each episode. By this time ten complete seasons had been edited, and the show had screened two-hundred and thirty-six episodes.

At the time of the last episode, Friends had amassed so many viewers that it was recorded as the episode that attracted the most attention in more than a decade, catapulting the show to the status of fourth most watched finale in television history. Even today the show is still reported to be one of the top ranking sitcoms in history, remaining in the top television rankings for a week after the final episode went to air.

The Friends show highlighted the lifestyles of a group of friends who lived in Manhattan. However, the show was actually filmed with a live audience, in the Warner Brothers Studios. During its time on air, the show was nominated for an unprecedented sixty-three Primetime Emmy Awards. As with a lot of very successful shows, a spin-off was created, called "Joey".

The show would go to air every Thursday, for those who have not seen the show during it's ten year stint on television. It was one of those shows that for half an hour, and sometimes an hour each week, people would laugh, cry and the share the episode at work the next day.

As with any show with this much appeal, of the six main characters that played their respective roles, there would always be reasons to love and hate them. The two girls, Monica Geller, and Rachel Green were the best of friends. Courtney Cox and Jennifer Aniston were the two actors who played these parts. Rachel was a skilled enthusiast of fashion, whilst Monica earned her reputation as the Mother hen to all of the friends. The third of the girls in the show was Phoebe Buffay who was played by Lisa Kudrow. She was not only a masseuse, but a very eccentric self taught musician.

Then there was Monica's brother, Ross Geller, a part played by David Schwimmer. He worked as a palaeontologist at a local museum. Matt Le Blanc played the fifth character as Joey, a self professed womanizer, with loads of charm. Our last character, Chandler Bing, marries Monica in the seventh series, played by Matthew Perry.

Seven years on, the show is still being aired as reruns, and the DVD collection is available for people who enjoy watching episodes over and over. Friends was known to be responsible for a massive cultural impact. For a start, many different coffee houses around the globe have been inspired by the Central Perk Coffee House.
