One tech person told me the problem was my iPhoto software and I should contact Apple (I thanked him, and called back to get a more knowledgeable person). After 4 calls and 2 emails to tech support, I still do not know if I need to initialize the camera or not.

It has duel time zones so you know what time it is where you are and back home for when you're traveling. The photo editing in camera is pretty effective, and saves time editing later. I'm waiting for a reply on this. To their credit, Olympus tech support is prompt, once you get past the phone tree. I had bought this camera to replace my Olympus Stylus Tough-8000 that died after a beach vacation. I expected to love this camera just as much as the previous one, but I'm not quite as fond of it. Have a 16G memory and that works fine. The Shutter got jammed by a grain of sand on our first ocean dive. If you already are familiar with digital cameras, then one could possibly figure this one out, but instructions basically told you how to open up and charge the battery, nothing about the different modes, and had to go on line to find some adequate instructions. Amazon still has the best deals and pricing for cameras.

Once I removed and reinserted the battery, the pictures would come out clear again. I was very disappointed and did not even attempt an underwater shot. This camera is very easy to use with an easy set-up. I have not tried it under water yet but with this camera I'm not scared to let my little children run around taking picture with a fear of them dropping and breaking my camera. The way to reproduce the problem is to take a towel or a slightly damp fingertip and gently sweep downward. The metal screen will move and stay in the mid position you leave it rather than bounce back up when released to assume it position to protect the screen. It is fast and it is waterproof! This is a great camera that fully lives up to product specifications and expectations. I bought this camera in preparation for a cruise to the Caribbean. It was great to have a waterproof camera to take through rainforests, waterfalls, kayaking, snorkeling, swimming with turtles, etc.

We spend tons of time at the beach, our pool and the waterpark so waterproof was necessary. The only complaints I have are 1.) It takes a long time to turn on and off.

It's likely the two "hates" that I listed were indications of a defective camera. The SEVEN items that I listed above that are reasons enough that I would not recommend the camera to anyone.

This is just something to help you out if you buy one. All of this was bought for $180.

A major reason, the major reason I bought it instead of another standard point and shoot was for the ruggedized features: shock and water proof to 16 feet. As a standard around the house camera it worked fine.
