Pretty disappointing when you're trying to get a group shot. The panoramic setting is fantastic, super easy to use, and - oddly enough - picks up small details even from very far away. Last, I wasn't able to find a details view of any picture or movie file to see the kb size. I expected a 300.00 camera to not have the lens protector issue.
I like it very much and got this one as a gift for my fiance. We use them for video half the time.
It is waterproof up to 16 feet and shockproof as well. An awesome buy! Simple aim and shoot with above average picture quality. Only miss is the delay between operation of the shutter button and the actual shutter operation..........otherwise no other complaints. The pictures I have taken both indoors and outdoors are clear not grainy and the HD video is awesome. This camera even has sound when previewing your vids from camera, which I love since my Kodak didn't.
The 3000 had no lens protection, so it was inevitably getting dirt, dust, sand and water on the lens which really messes up your pictures. This camera fixed that with a lens cover that shoots over the lens when you turn the camera off; it feels sturdy and keeps the grime out. The camera feels solid and well made; good user interface, fair number of options for a point-and-shoot. The bundled PC software is bloated and buggy, but that's to be expected. I have a 14GB-Class-10 memory card installed. Class-10 is the fastest card there is. I was especially interested in taking the camera snorkeling on the coral reefs there. It goes down 30ft, which is plenty for snorkeling: the furthest I could comfortable descend is about ~20ft. It starts with "plug the camera into a computer and load the software" - what software" There is none! In the box you'll find a quick start guide, but if you want the full user manual, you'll need to download it from Olympus as a PDF file. This camera is feature dense, the user manual is 80+ pages long, and it should have been included in the box.
What can I say, a point and shoot camera with a dedicated help button says a lot. There are certainly a great number of options and modes to choose from.
I definitely, have no confidence in putting this camera in the water ever again. I had purchased this camera a couple of years ago and was very happy with the quality. I ended up returning it and buying a Nikon s8100 for about the same price. The pic and video/audio quality is fine and I'm happy with it.
