The Millennium has witnessed many changes in filmmaking trends as far as the latest Hindi movies are concerned. Nowadays movie scripts are well-written, exploring political and social issues. Cinematography has advanced techniques and filmmakers take advantage from new and improved equipment.

Sound recording in movies have also undergone changes because of the influence from the western countries in almost all main areas. Directors try to fascinate public with item numbers even when the films are of poor quality.

One of the most important changes is the huge investment towards marketing and promoting films. There are many opportunities as far as the film industry is concerned, one reason why movies are promoted so well. You can take Farhan Akhtar's 1st movie Dil Chahta Hai as an example. It signaled the starting of a new era of feel good and young movies with all the song, dance and drama that Bollywood is popular for but also with subtle sensibilities that made it stand apart.

Hindi cinema not only signifies newest Hindi movies but also the Hindi film industry completely. Specialized or art movies are mostly altered to fit silver screen. A genre of persuasive and tough themes such as the kind seen in City of Gold (based on Mumbai mill workers' lives) have become more and more common. Film directors test new ideas and interpretations of real incidents. Since movies only depict real life and are not exactly its mirror image, a lot of room remains available for creatively portraying ordinary living.

New Hindi films (mainly the popular kind) have turned to shooting most of the films in foreign locations. Action films contain more breathtaking sequences and a slicker packaging.

Actresses were only regarded as love interests with minor characters while the male leads were given more importance. But films like Fashion and The President is Coming have shown that an a successful film can be made even without male protagonists. Filmmakers are even checking out experimental horror films by going beyond the basic norm of ghost stories. Newest Hindi movies like Raaz, 13B and Phoonk have proved that horror films can be a commercial success.
