Weddings are a momentous event and require much planning. If you are planning one, you probably are more concerned with the big details, such as formal wear, flowers, cakes and the reception menu, than the small details. However, once you have the big things taken care of, it is a good idea to think about the little details that make a huge difference on your wedding day.

Give your guests a little extra thank you by placing favors on the reception tables. Tiny tea light candles can do double duty as both a romantic source of light and a keepsake. Other options include placing a chocolate, a mint tin or other small treat at each place setting.

You also can create some personalized options, such as personalized wine glasses or even specialty items such as playing cards. You also can cheaply create your own CDs featuring special music from the reception, as well as a custom liner with your engagement pictures or just some free wedding clip art from the Internet.

Don't forget about making some special items for yourself, as well. Instead of a guest book that you probably will pack away in the attic, turn it into a photo project. Many companies can create a special event sign-in board, which features your photo with plenty of matting space around it for guests to sign. This can hang on your wall for years to come and remind you of your special day.

Photos are a great way to decorate your reception, and of course you can keep them as mementos after the ceremony. Ask the company that creates your event sign-in board to enlarge your favorite photos as a couple or even photos of you both as children. This can make a fun display by the cake table or surrounding the sign-in board.

Decorate your reception tables with re-usable LED votive or tea light candles of all different sizes. You can keep these to decorate your own home after the wedding or give some away to members of your wedding party. Buy a variety of little, coordinating vases for your tables and use those to decorate your home as well. You also could opt for little pots with live plants in them, which can be used after the reception.
