There is no substitute for high quality photography, and any experienced photographer knows this. Using the right lenses for each type of photograph is something every old or new photographer needs to know. Here are the more commonly used lenses together with brief descriptions and tips on how to use them in everyday photography.

Standard lenses: are the most common use on today market. With a focal length ranging from 40 to 60 mm, standard lenses can be used for any kind of photography at any time. You should always keep these lenses on the camera body, as they are the most flexible lens type.

Telephoto zoom lenses are ideal for nature photographers, as this is perfect for taking wildlife pictures. A telephoto zoom lens has a 60 mm to 300 mm focal length, and is ideal not only for wildlife photography, but also for sports photography. The telephoto lens is able to capture both objects at far away distances, as well as landscape images.

This lens can also be used for close-ups, but it isn't always recommended to do so. Large areas of the image will become blank and could destroy your picture.

The telephoto lens must always be operated on your camera with a tripod or similar object handy. If you cant use a tripod try using a beanbag - rest the lens on the bag when taking your images.

Wide-angle lenses are preferred by the majority of landscape specialists. They allow you to include as much of the scene as possible when you look in your viewfinder with a wide focal length of 17 mm to 40mm. The wider the lens you use, the closer you need to be to an object of foreground interest, to add impact to your photography. At 8mm to 28mm focal length, ultra wide-angle lenses are also available as an option.

Macro lens: is perfect for ultra close-ups shots with an average focal length of 100 mm. Nature photographers could benefit from this a lot, as insects and flowers and other small objects can easily be taken with a macro lens. Not only that, but abstract photographers can also use macro lenses to their advantages. Focus on a natural shape with a macro lens with a wide aperture and you can get a nice-looking abstract figure.

Powerful winds can make it difficult to focus using a macro lens, so be careful and exercise necessary safety precautions.
