Many artists are protesting the decision of many schools to take San Francisco art lessons out of the school curriculum. Many schools are facing budget cuts and feel that emphasis should be placed on trade school classes and computer classes and that art should be eliminated from course work. But many artists argue that craft classes offer students unique chances to develop skills that can be found in no other course of study.

Many believe that artistry is out of date given the virtual world that now exists on the computer. Many believe that it is more important to learn technological skills than it is to learn artistic skills. Many computer experts believe that there is enough artwork in museums and that there is no reason for new artistic works to be created.

But most artists disagree with the argument that the technological age has replaced the artistic age because artistry is never out of fashion. Many artists believe that the study of artwork boosts creativity. The study of artwork will help the student think outside the box as it were.

The artwork student is encouraged to develop his free flowing thought processes which is the core of creativity according the artwork professor. The student learns to grow his decision making processes even if he simply deciding on what color pattern to choose when he is working on a painting. One type of color mixture will have a dramatic effect on the painting and learning how to choose and apply color patterns helps the student to make choices that have far reaching consequences.

Craft class can teach a person vital observational skills. Students learn how to use their skill of imagination which is a skill that students will need to become better problem solvers. Students learn how to be more innovative and learn to take risks and will less afraid of making mistakes.

The skill that hiring managers search for in job applicants is the skill to think creatively. Artwork courses prepare pupils to think creatively. The job world can be a harsh place but the artistry student is used to having her work evaluated and even criticized which prepares her to be evaluated and criticized by her managers. The person who can stand up and accept constructive criticism is better prepared to move into the job world.

Several schools have done away with San Francisco art lessons from the curriculum because of budget cuts. Most artwork professors think that it is a mistake to remove artistic coursework from the school curriculum because artistic classes offer pupils unique learning opportunities found in no other coursework. The artwork professor argues that school should be more than computer trade coursework and auto shop.
