Printers are basically the most important computer peripheral. They are used for producing solid output, and not just digital copies of documents and images. When it comes to printers, the most popularly used are the inkjet devices specifically because of the versatility and functions that these printers can provide. Even for photo printing, inkjet photo printers are highly preferred by millions of computer users all around the world.

But this doesn't mean that inkjet photo printers not perfect. Like any other product, these devices have their pros and cons. Every individual has his own preferences and there is no particular printer that can answer to all consumers. Gaining a better understanding of the good and bad sides that these printers can provide will make it easier for you to decide if these are really ideal for your photo printing activities.

Advantages. There are several good aspects about inkjet photo printers and these are what make them extremely popular. One of the biggest advantages that these devices have over other printer types is their prices. Inkjet printers are very simple with no complicated parts, and they are also very commonly manufactured. Because of this, their prices aren't as high as that of laser printers which have a more complex construction, or as that of dye sublimation printers which aren't available in many models.

Another great quality of inkjet printers is their photo print quality. Since these devices use nozzles which spray droplets of ink onto the medium, the images produced are very precise and fully detailed. They also use color cartridges which are able to create color combinations that result to the most exact shades and hues as that of the digital image produced.

Versatility is by far the best advantage of inkjet printers over other printer types. While laser printers are used best for document printing and dye sublimation printers are used best for photo printing, inkjet printers are best used for any printing purpose. They can print documents, photos, images, and virtually any printable image or text possible.

Cons. Although inkjet photo printers have many great features, they still have some qualities which not everyone will be in favor of. One of these is the ink cost. Since ink is a very important element to operate a printer, it should definitely be taken into consideration. But the cost of ink for inkjet printers is still cheaper as compared to dye sublimation printers, making them the more preferable choice.

Inkjet printers also do not have very high duty cycles as compared to laser printers. But if your purpose of printing focuses mainly on photos and not on documents, this will not be much of a problem for you. For mass photo printing, though, it is not advisable to use inkjet photo printers as dye sublimation printers are capable of printing faster and with better quality.

Conclusion. Although there are several flaws that inkjet photo printers have, they are still seen as best for photo printing purposes. Having a better understanding of the advantages and disadvantages that you can get from this type of device will help you make a wiser decision whether you should purchase one or not.
