So you are in Chicago and you have a wedding coming up? If you're like most people you have done everything you can to get the most optimal location, the best band you can afford and even took care of the types of chairs and linen used. But, what do you do about photography for the event?

It's kind of funny when you think about it, but most of the details like the type of food served or music played will fade from everyone's memory within days or weeks of the event. The photographs however remain forever. Doesn't it make sense to pay the most attention to making sure you get optimal photography done for the event?

Then again, what is the process to getting the right photographer or the right studio to your event? What specifically do you need to do in order to make sure you get it right? Well, one interesting idea is that you could hire two studios to work in parallel which will maybe triple or quadruple the odds of capturing everything that's important.

If you're not smart enough to realize the cleverness of hiring two cheaper studios and having them compete at the wedding - then you have to work really hard on picking just one studio. You will have to go ahead and do it the old fashioned way. Go ahead and ask everyone you know in Chicago for recommendations, and what the "word on the street" is in terms of who's good wedding photography and how people's experiences have been.

If you are unable to ask around because you are new in town, or not many people have done weddings from your circle of friends - then I would tell you to take out online reviews and yellow pages. Your next step is finding their online portfolio of previous wedding photography. Just see who's work your like best, and then negotiate!
