Elements, as the name indicates is in the products of Adobe and is image editing program. iPhoto is from Apple Inc. and is for Mac OS. This also is a photo organizing program.

Adobe Elements and iPhoto aren't similar programs though they share a few common features like the photo organizer, basic colour correction and picture correction features.

iPhoto is basically an image organizer but Adobe Elements is much more sophisticated and is a picture editing program itself. Moving through the large album of images and making corrections to them is far simpler in Elements than in iPhoto. Using Elements, you may composite the many photos you've and combine them to form one, or transform it to a totally new one. If you simply desire to do the simple picture correction tasks, then iPhoto is useful. You can even use Elements and iPhoto together. In this case, using Photoshop Elements as your editor will be a better choice. You can import the images into iPhoto and edit it using Adobe Elements. For this you'll have to set the option to 'Edit' in External Editor in the iPhoto menu. iPhoto isn't that an expert tool for editing your photos. And if you are a professional working with editing photos, Adobe Elements is the right choice.

Adobe Photoshop Elements has far more editing options that iPhoto as it's an editing program and iPhoto has more organizing options. The organizing features of iPhoto are key words and non destructive editing. It's simple to use books and calendars in iPhoto. Whereas the benefit of using Adobe Photoshop Elements is that there are three ways of editing photos. The newest in the line, Photoshop Elements 10 for Mac stands up to the expectations of the users. It is aimed at both professional as well as newbie users. And it's possible to use iPhoto along with Photoshop Elements 10. These days in some packages you may buy the iPhoto with the Adobe Photoshop Elements. In the package charge, you will find that iPhoto is provided absolutely free. This package can include Adobe Bridge and a raw image converter also.

Apart from editing photos, Adobe Elements provide lots of options in adding effects to the photos. This isn't possible in iPhoto. Along with Adobe Photoshop Elements comes the Bridge that aids you to assign the meta-data keywords to the photos. In iPhoto you may add just the proprietary keywords. Using Elements, besides organizing your images, you can also share it by creating scrapbooks, online albums, and in a lot more creative ways. Another disadvantage of iPhoto is that when you begin using it, it often changes the folder structures you have created.

Also you can not use Adobe Bridge and iPhoto together on the same pictures. This is as the keywords and the metadata of the pictures crash the iPhoto when viewing these pictures using the software. And when you export the images from the iPhoto, this software writes the keywords and titles corresponding to the pictures in the respective IPTC fields.
