It is very important that every Hindu male or female knows how to tie a turban since the cloth is strongly attached to their religion and culture. In most cases, it has been found to be more popularly won by males than the female Hindus. One interesting fact is that how this piece of cloth is tied depends on sec of Hinduism or religion that one follows. There are two known ways of trying it; one being a simple draping from head down to shoulder or the other being hand pinching at the forehead and wrapping in an up and down movement around head. When the procedure is done precisely, the last piece ends up behind head and can then be tucked.

Another method can be applied on short hair. However, if the hair is long, it must be tied into a knot by combing it. It is not compulsory for the hair to be long as it can be combined into a knot. Kanga or comb is slid into the back of top knot.

Tying this wear is simple. One needs a piece of cloth measuring 3m by 50cm for a child, for a grownup the cloth is estimated to be 6m by 100cm. It can be of any color. The washer man applies starch on the fabric to make it smooth. A small cap has to be worn inside before the cloth is wrapped.

When starting, one must tightly grasp using the teeth, one side that will not be used at the beginning of wrapping. One must ensure that the piece is firmly secured to avoid dropping and be confused with the one. The first piece has to be consumed first.

The next step is to wrap it around head in anticlockwise manner, neatly and carefully while covering the ears. With successive windings ensure that you spiral the material up the head, leaving a small space so that it covers all but the top knot.

The successive windings should continue until the cloth can no longer go around head. When this is achieved, this cloth is then tucked. This cloth is tightened, but in a careful manner to avoid making the head stiff or interfere with the layout.

With the other end held by teeth, spread it gently at the top of this knot in a relaxed manner keep it in mind not to tighten the wrap. The remaining part is then released and let to go around head to the front. This end is wrapped to the back of head while the tuck is kept.

Children also wear them and the process of tying is the same. It is difficult to make a child hold the cloth with his or her mouth for the whole process. However one piece of cloth has to remain a part from the other. Hence, the child has to be made to hold one end of it and the parents do the turban for them. Everyone should know how to tie a turban.
