Famous people from Manchester

Manchester is one of the most major and most populated cities in the UK. As well as having two Premiership football teams, Manchester also bares similarities to London with a number of luxury restaurants, bars and properties as well as a booming business district. The world has been given a number of stars in sport, music and film by Manchester all of which are proud of their home town and have a great love for Manchester.

Manchester gave Oasis to the world who became a sensation worldwide and whose music is still played throughout the world today. Brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher fronted the band and were supported by Tony McCarrol, Paul Arthurs and Paul McGuigan. Oasis continued to tour worldwide performing to their fans despite members of the band leaving later on in their career.

Ricky 'The Hitman' Hatton is one of the greatest sportsmen to come out of Manchester and boxed his way to become a two time IBO and IBF world light welterweight champion and a WBU, WBA welterweight champion. Hatton's career includes 47 fights and 45 wins, 32 by knockout and his excellent boxing record has seen him fight worldwide including Las Vegas, Nevada. The Hitman's career reached its peak and its turning point when he fought the undefeated Floyd Mayweather in what was described as the biggest welterweight fight for years.

Known worldwide for a number of successful Hollywood blockbusters and also from Manchester is Danny Boyle. He became a success worldwide after releasing the visually stunning '127 Hours' and 'Slumdog Millionaire' but beforehand he became a great success in the UK with the gritty hit 'Train Spotting' starring Ewan McGregor.

Another gentleman from Manchester who made it in Hollywood is Steve Coogan. Before moving onto a number of high budget Hollywood films, Coogan became a fans favourite in the UK with performances as Alan Partridge. Coogan played either lead or supporting roles in 'A Night at the Museum, The Other Guys' and 'Tropic Thunder.
