It was in 1976 that Yash Johar founded Dharma Productions Pvt Ltd. The firm has been producing continuous blockbusters from the time of its establishment. In 1980, they started their success journey with Dostana which had super star Amitabh Bachchan, intense Shatrughan Sinha and sexy Zeenat Aman. Bringing together another group of big names from Bollywood, they made Duniya(1984), which became a huge commercial success. All the elements like drama, romance, emotional scenes and suspense was present in their films. They also produced films like Gumrah, Muqaddar Ka Faisla and Agneepath.
Dharma Productions' reputation soaring new heights was obvious and soon they started a proprietary company concern. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), the first film directed by Karan Johar (son of Yash Johar), was produced under this concern. The film became the first one from India to be featured in the UK Top 10 list. People once again saw Bollywood's much adored pair of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in this romantic film. In Addition To being the biggest blockbuster of the year, the film received numerous awards for its star cast and production values, nationally and internationally. The film got the National Award for Wholesome Entertainment in the year from Government of India.
