The film is unlike any of Karan Johar's previous projects and breaking his usual trend of roping in Bollywood bigwigs, this film will star three fresh faces. The movie features Siddharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt in the lead. Making their first silver-screen appearance, the film will act as a launch-pad for the newcomers.
Karan Johar's newcomers have set out to promote the movie across the country and have lately set off on an international tour for the same. In the last few days, the trio was spotted at various promotional events and has made appearances at the Eternity Mall in Nagpur, Pune's Indira College, the Podar College in Mumbai and AIIMS-Delhi. Also, Karan Johar recently tweeted "Just landed in london to promote #SOTY.....series of interviews lined up today with Sid...Varun and Alia!!! Excitement!!! @SOTYOfficial". The team is currently in west-London promoting the movie.
At the event, Karan Johar and his host of newcomers were greeted by fans, who were allowed to take pictures of the actors and their autographs. The actors then performed "The Disco Song" to a cheering crowd, while a girl from the audience was given the opportunity to dance with Sidharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan on "Ishq Wala Love". Quoting Karan Johar at the event, "Thank you all for coming out to see us tonight and for all your love and I only have more love to give back to you. Make sure you come and give our movie love on 19th of October. If you are young, you will love it and if you are not young, it will make you feel young."
While Siddharth Malhotra is a model-turned-actor with no filmy background, both Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt come from families based in tinsel-town. Varun Dhawan is the son of director David Dhawan while Alia Bhatt is the daughter of director-producer Mahesh Bhatt. In the film, the trio will be seen as students in an upper-class institution. Together, they are faced with the highs and lows of teenage life and relationships. The three protagonists then compete against each other as they each join the race to win the Student of the Year Trophy.
