The son of the late Yash Johar and one of the most sought-after directors today, Karan Johar has managed to steal the hearts of many with his exceptional films. Hailing from a strong filmy background, Karan Johar is known for his soul-touching stories and star-packed films. He has been recognized as one of the few directors who have managed to strike gold with nearly every release, rolling out some of Bollywood's highest grossing films in India and abroad.

As for the official movie trailer, the video features clips from the song Velle and has the protagonists ride expensive bikes, drive luxury cars, get thrown out of class and bicker with each other. More than just a current-day rendition of movies like Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar and Mohabbatein, the film is also one of the most anticipated releases of 2012.

The film's success led Karan Johar to direct his first film, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in 1998. The film was very well received, encouraging Karan Johar to roll out movies directed by him. After breaking box office records with Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, a high budget film with a magnificent star-cast featuring Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor, Karan Johar made his first small screen appearance with the show Koffee With Karan. A talk show with celebrities for guests, the show completed three seasons.

Karan Johar was also selected as the Goodwill Tourism Ambassador for Visit Britain and was officially invited to the 2012 London Olympics. The director has also made an appearance on a video shot for Visit Britain that was aired a few months ago. Apart from the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Karan Johar was the only Indian to have been officially invited to the event. Quoting Karan, "I've been shooting non-stop for my film Student of the Year and the TV show that I'm judging. Life has been very hectic. When this invitation came through, I jumped at the opportunity. After all, it's a very prestigious event."

The director has announced his next directorial venture, Student of the Year, also his first film without a star-packed cast. With fresh faces Siddharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan playing the lead, the film is a step away from Karan Johar's usual movie-making trend. It is a story about three students competing against each other to win a school trophy. Releasing on 19th of October, it has been considered to be the most anticipated movie of the year.
