Harrison Ford was born on July 13, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois. His parents, Dorothy and Christopher Ford, were both former actors and had moved to the Chicago area. His mother was a homemaker and his father was an advertising executive. They worked very hard to give Harrison and his brother, Terence, has a very normal upbringing that included Boy Scouts and more. He achieved the second highest rank in the Boy Scouts and was the first student voice broadcasted on the local high school's radio station. He was bit by the acting bug during his senior year at Ripon College, where he took a drama class to try to overcome his shyness. Los Angeles then called to him and he moved there to try his luck at doing voice-overs, with no success.

There were many uncredited roles during this time, but he did finally get his name credited in his role in the western, A Time for Killing. Many other movie roles followed, including some in television, such as Gunsmoke, Ironside, American Style, Kung Fu, and Love, American Style. He was not happy with the roles that he was given, so he decided that he needed to find another way to support his family, by becoming a self-taught carpenter. His carpentry skills led him to work for George Lucas, who became integral in his future success.

He has also been very involved in encouraging people to vote, especially during the 2004 Presidential Election. He and Jolie have started their own foundation as well to aid in humanitarian causes all over the world.
