Of all the camera makers, there are some that always seem to stand out. It's often those who have been around for a long time and have the experience and resources to continue making advances in digital photography. While there is a huge supply of feature rich digital cameras to choose from, there is no apparent decrease in demand either, which means that the consumer benefits from the companies trying to outdo each other. The following digital cameras are good ones to consider if you're in the market for something special.

For those interested in big features, the PowerShot SD850 IS made by Canon is a great choice that falls into the middle range of the price level. In addition to the 2.5 inch LCD display, this camera boats a wide range of features. This 8 megapixel camera offers 4x zoom and image stabilization features. Of course, moving on to the image process features like red-eye removal doesn't hurt the status of this camera by any means. Canon prefers to include a non-internal memory card. There is a 32 megabyte SD card included with the camera. True, this won't last long and an upgrade is definitely in order but it's enough for most people to start snapping photos.

This is a great camera for those that like to have more control over their photographic compositions. This camera allows you to manually control things such as aperture, sensitivity, and shutter speed. All that plus the easy to use interface for settings makes this camera a great choice.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5 is a great option for those that want something that is less specialized and has more of an overall application. This in spite of relatively lacking jpeg processing ability, but you won't be disappointed with the photos you shoot. This 10.1 megapixel pocket sized camera has a 3 inch TFT LCD display. This is the follow up to Panasonic's super successful DMC-LX3. Panasonic had to work hard to improve upon the LX3.

Then there is the great Fuji line of digital cameras which include the F31fd digital compact. pocket size camera. The incredible ISO standards of this camera are the reason the image quality is so noteworthy. This camera proved the experts to be misguided in their emphasis on pixel counts. Most people who use these types of cameras will rarely require applications that need high pixel counts. The low light abilities of this little gem was a trade-off for pixel specs, but it's still a great digital camera. Many people who use this camera also appreciate the long lasting battery and the performance of this camera when it comes to high speed photography. That's a look at a few of the pocket size cameras that are available on the market. If you've never used a digital ultra-compact camera, these would be good for testing out. They are priced very reasonably and do provide decent enough picture quality.

For many reasons, it's a real challenge to choose the best pocket size digital camera. First figure out exactly what your needs in a digital camera are and then decided on a budget you can afford; find the camera that works best with both. High pixel counts are only necessary if you're planning to print out very large prints so don't make them your first priority. Don't let slick ads move your focus away from features that are more important to you.
