Barcelona is the capital and the most populous city of Catalonia and the second largest city in Spain, after Madrid. It's also one of the most popular destinations in Europe, especially for spring and summer city breaks. The city went through a major transformation in the early 1990's and now it includes a man made but attractive beach, lots of palm trees and a lively cosmopolitan port. The city has a lot to offer the visitor, here is a guide to the best attractions in town:
*Visit Picasso's Museum even if you only have a slight interest in art. It's definitely one of the best art galleries in the city.
* Park Guell is a garden complex with architectural elements situated on the hill of el Carmel in the Grcia district. It's a lovely spot which is well worth a visit.
* The famous La Sagrada Familia the massive catholic church still under construction from 1882! It's still impressive although not finished.
*The fabulous Batllo House designed by Antoni Gaudi is an extraordinary sight, it seems like the designer wanted to avoid straight lines at all costs!
* Also make sure you visit Camp Nou (football stadium) because it's huge and very impressive and also because it's world famous. Even if football's not your thing you will still enjoy the tour round.
*If you have little ones try the Tibidabo Amusement Park, the IMAX cinema and the fabulous Magic Fountain of Montjuic.
* The world famous Las Ramblas is a must see. It's a lively street which has an abundance of street performers and a great happy atmosphere.
* Head to the old Olympic port (Ciutadella I Vila Olimpica) where you will find a mix of bars and restaurants as well as a great casino and the beach.
Tips for getting around - The city can be a little sprawling but it also has a very good public transport system (both buses and trains). Taxis are also not too expensive. Hope you enjoy your stay!
