The term miniature painting is defined in different ways; the techniques, the magnitude of portrayed object to the depicted object or the size of the two. The art began in Western world and it includes many forms of painting like portraits of saints and angels. Various scenes from daily life of the middle Ages are also found in this division of art.

The artists began to make miniature painting for their customers privately or for the royal family members as soon as the innovation of printing press took place. It was a trend then to keep such paintings in a bag or pocket by the owner and take it to anywhere he/she goes. As long as this factor is accurate in the painting, the painting is worthwhile. The size of the painting can even be as large as a room will even but the depicted object has to be small enough.

The miniature paintings have got popular on a number of accounts. The small size is one factor that makes them ideal for display on walls or in small offices. Some people prefer to have a collection of miniature paintings to decorate a large place instead of having a large full size single image.

The price of miniature is another factor that adds to its popularity. The large paintings are usually costly and not affordable for many. Those who really are in love with paintings can buy these miniatures and appreciate their individuality without heavy investment.

Home and office walls are not the only place to display these valuable miniatures. The shelves at home or office, fireplaces, coffee tables and other spaces in a room look really attractive when decorated with original miniatures. These miniatures also make an appropriate gift for you loved ones.
